Registered Versaterm Forensics customers can access a variety of online training courses and video lessons in Versaterm Academy. The currently available courses and their descriptions are listed below. Additional courses and lessons will be available in the future, so check back regularly.

Note that Customers enrolled in courses for a particular product will be automatically enrolled in new courses for that product.


ChainLinx Courses

An introduction to the ChainLinx application and its navigation. This course also demonstrates how to change your password and/or PIN and how to create a new Record.

Learn how to add Items to Records in ChainLinx. This course also covers Item transfers and the “My Items” feature.

Learn the purpose of Tasks in ChainLinx and how to add, edit, complete, and review Tasks that have been added to a Record.

ChainLinx includes a fully functional Search feature and the ability to run Reports at both the Record and System levels. This course demonstrates select Search and Report capabilities.

CIMS Courses

An introduction to the CIMS application and an overview of the available Dashboard options for logged in Users. This course also includes information on installing and configuring JTTray for barcode printing.

Learn how to perform the tasks available only to Admin Users, including Lab Management, Staff Creation, and Picklist Administration.

This introduction to Raw Material Templates explains how to access and create Raw Material Templates. Lesson topics include Material Safety Data Sheets, Reorder Information, and Default Storage Locations.

This introduction to Prepared Material Templates explains how to access and create Prepared Material Templates. Lesson topics include Ingredient Lists, Material Safety Data Sheets, Reorder Information, and Default Storage Locations.

Learn how to receive Raw Materials from an external vendor. Lesson topics including specifying Expiration Dates, entering Lot Numbers, and uploading Attachments to a Raw Material.

Learn how to create Prepared Materials. Lesson topics include assigning QC Procedure Checks, adding Ingredients, and uploading Attachments to a Prepared Material.

Orders are used to request specific Raw Materials and/or Prepared Materials from Vendors and/or Staff Members. These Orders can then be used to process the material request. In this course, learn how to create an Order and process both Raw Material and Prepared Material Orders.

Learn how to view Materials that have been created or received, create sub-lots of existing Materials, and manually decrement Materials.

Learn how to create and perform Quality Control Procedures. A lesson on how to search for, view, and edit QC Results is also included.

LIMS-plus DNA Courses

An introduction to the LIMS-plus DNA application and an overview of the available Dashboard and System Administration options for logged in Users. This course also includes information on installing and configuring JTTray for barcode printing.

Most administrative functions for LIMS-plus DNA are performed under the System Administration tab. The System Administration Course will provide information on performing most of these functions.

In LIMS-plus DNA, Analysts and Administrators are added as Staff Members who are granted access to the application. In this course, learn how to add Staff Members and Groups to LIMS-plus DNA and define Security Roles to grant specific permissions to Staff Members.

Labs in LIMS-plus DNA are used to indicate different Labs or Entities within the same organization. These allows Admins to specify the Instruments, Methods, Reagents, and other items that can be used for each Lab individually. In this course, learn how to create and configure Laboratories, including Lab Options, Locations, Barcodes, and Reagents.

In LIMS-plus DNA, Methods are used to define the specific properties and activities of each Process Step. This course is an introduction to the five main DNA Processes available in LIMS-plus DNA: Extraction, Quantitation, Amplification, Detection, and Refinement.

In Batch Assembly Setup, Admins specify how a Batch plate or list should be setup, including size, well-labeling, and locations of controls and standards, if applicable. The Lab Methods Panel Setup lessons are divided into two courses designated by “A” and “B.” These courses cover Batch Assembly, Process Defaults, Verification and Review, Controls, SOPs, Reports, and Controls/Standards, among others.

Instruments are created and customized for each Lab individually. Staff Members can set up permissions, Import/Export settings, and Maintenance. In this course, learn how to add Instruments, configure permissions, and add maintenance entries.

A continuation of Instrument Configuration, this course demonstrates how to configure Instruments to Export and Import Batch Sample data from .txt and .csv file types. It also includes lessons explaining example Export and Import files.

The Dynamic User Interface Generator is used to create Dynamic User Interfaces (DUIs) that will be used throughout the application. These DUIs allow Users to enter information in custom forms. In this course, learn where DUIs are located in the application and how to create them.

Under Sample Management, Samples are added, reviewed, accepted (or rejected) and exported. The Sample Management Course provides detailed information on managing Samples, including adding, reviewing, accepting, transferring, and exporting Samples.

Batches can be assembled by an Admin or other Staff Member and then assigned to the same or a different Staff Member. In this course, learn how to create a Batch and add Samples.

In LIMS-plus DNA, Batch Processing is the step in which the analyst will record all of the details of sample manipulation and reagent and instrument usage. In this step, Export files can be generated for the Instrument, and results files can be Imported from the Instrument.  This course explains how to process a Batch, including adding information to Samples, Controls, and/or Standards.

After processing, Batches are marked as complete and sent for review or used to create a new Batch from the Samples. In this course, learn how to complete, review, and – in some cases – edit Batches.

In LIMS-plus DNA, Instrument Maintenance is performed from the main Dashboard. This course explains how to complete the Instrument Maintenance that was configured for an Instrument.

LIMS-plus Portal v3.8 Courses

LIMS-plus Portal v3.8 combines two great JusticeTrax products: iPreLog and iResults. This overview course provides an introduction to the application and a summary of the possible statuses available for Submissions and Requests in LIMS-plus Portal v3.8.

The Agency Admin Role in LIMS-plus Portal v3.8 can perform administrative functions, such as adding, editing, and enrolling Agency Representatives. The LIMS-plus Portal v3.8 Administration Course explains the Administrative functions available to LIMS-plus Portal Users assigned to the Agency Admin Role.

Agency Admins, Super Users, and Case Entry Users can create and submit Submissions. The Submission course will cover creating and submitting Submissions to the Lab and searching for existing Submissions.

Agency Admins, Super Users, and View Request Users can view Cases and Requests that have been accepted into LIMS-plus. The Lab Request Course includes content on searching for and viewing Lab Cases and Requests in addition to submitting change recommendations for Requests and viewing Final Request Reports that have been made available.

LIMS-plus Portal v5 Courses

The LIMS-plus Portal v5.3 introductory course provides an introduction to the application and a description of how to perform searches in LIMS-plus Portal. This course is relevant for LIMS-plus Portal v5.3.36 and beyond.

The LIMS-plus Portal v5.3 Administration Course explains the Administrative functions available to LIMS-plus Portal Users assigned to the Agency Admin Role, including adding/editing Agency Reps. This course is relevant for LIMS-plus Portal v5.3.36 and beyond.

Agency Admins, Super Users, and Case Entry Users can create and submit Cases. This course will cover creating and submitting Cases to the Lab. This course is relevant for LIMS-plus Portal v5.3.36 and beyond.

This course includes content on viewing Requests that have been accepted by the Lab and have a status of either In Progress or Released. This course is relevant for LIMS-plus Portal v5.3.36 and beyond.

LIMS-plus v3.8 Courses

Now that the newest version of LIMS-plus v3 is delivered via a web browser, there are some configuration changes that must be made prior to connection to LIMS-plus. This course shows how to configure browsers for accessing LIMS-plus v3.8 and how to install JTTray for barcode printing.

Much of the interaction that an Analyst or other Staff Member will have with LIMS-plus is through the Main Case View. In this course, learn how to create a new Case and see an overview of the seven tabs available in the Main Case View. Detailed information on the Evidence, Requests, and Case Attachments Tabs can be found in later courses.

Evidence is added to a Case in the Evidence Tab of the Main Case View. In this course, learn how to add Evidence, Assign Requests, Assign Initial Chain of Custody, and Itemize Evidence.

Requests are added to a Case from the Requests Tab of the Main Case View. In this course, learn how to add, manage, and process Requests from the Requests Tab.

Attachments are added to a Case from the Attachments Tab of the Main Case view. In this course, learn how to upload, annotate, and batch print Attachments.

Batch Processing allows Users to complete certain tasks or groups of tasks more quickly. In this course, learn how to define Worklists, use the Batch Itemization utility, add Results via Batch Update, and set Milestones in Batch.

After Evidence has been added to a Case, transfer and chain of custody information can be added using the Evidence Transfer feature. In this course, learn how to transfer Evidence, access and print Receipts, add and use Containers, and use the “My Items” feature.

In LIMS-plus, Administrators can define Custom Forms to display in specific areas within the application. These can be used to collect custom or Lab-specific information from Users. In this course, learn where Custom Forms are accessed and how to create Custom Forms.

The v3.8 Transition 101 Course provides an overview of some of the changes that End Users will notice in LIMS-plus v3.8 as compared to LIMS-plus v3.7. Its intended audience is existing v3.7 Users moving to v3.8.

The Upgrade & Health Check course explains the process that JusticeTrax has developed to make the upgrade to v3.8 as smooth as possible. These lessons cover the overall upgrade process and how Cases will present in v3.8 if any Case problems are not corrected.

LIMS-plus v5 Courses

Currently, the Application Overview Course contains a single lesson explaining the relationships between Dynamic User Interfaces, Analytical Modules, and Services. Additional lessons will be added as the LIMS-plus v5 courses are expanded.

The Main Case View Course will provide instructions on how to add a Case to the application. The lessons will also demonstrate the actions available in the Main Case View, including under the tabs Case Info, Agency, Offense, and Crime Scene, among others. Information on the tabs Evidence, Requests, and Attachments will be included in separate courses.

Under the Evidence Tab in the Main Case View, Users can add, view, and otherwise manage Evidence associated with the Case. The Evidence Course will provide an overview of the Evidence Tab and demonstrate how to add Evidence individually and as part of an Evidence Kit. Information on Evidence Transfer will be included in a separate course.

Attachments are those files that are uploaded and related to a Case or Case Entity. Case Attachments are accessed under the Attachments Tab in the Main Case View. The Attachments Course will show how to upload, annotate, and move Attachments.

LIMS-plus maintains a complete two-sided transfer for all Evidence Items. The Evidence Transfer Course demonstrates the process of transferring Evidence once it has been added to the application.

Batches are used in LIMS-plus to simplify and make more efficient the assigning of Requests and reviews and entry of Sample results. The Batches course covers assigning Requests and Reviews in Batch and provides detailed information on using the new Sample Batch feature.

LIMS-plus allows Admins to create custom forms that will be automatically added to standard forms throughout the application for specific entities in the application. This functionality is called a Dynamic User Interface (DUI). In this course, learn best practices for creating DUI templates and learn the different types of DUIs. The DUI Categories are also explained in individual lessons within this Course.

The DUI Designer is used to build the DUI Templates that will appear throughout the application. This course provides a detailed overview of the DUI design, including how to add Controls, specify Permissions, and add and edit Rule Conditions for a DUI Template.

The DUI Designer is the main design interface for creating DUIs.  In this course, learn the purpose and use of nine DUI controls available to add to a DUI Template. The use of the Gridview Control is explained in a later course.

The Gridview control in a DUI Template allows Analysts to enter results information into a table with pre-defined column headers. In this course, learn how to add and configure the Gridview control in a DUI.

The DUI Example Course shows the steps in the creation of an example DUI. The example DUI will be displayed when a User selects the Evidence Type “Automobile” when adding an Evidence Item to a Case.
